Episode 16: Now That You Are Here; A Tale of Deception and Betrayal

[Excerpt from Episode 15: Get out now! I don’t want to see you Muyiwa, get the hell out of my house.” She screamed and Muyiwa tried to protest but Anu pleaded with her eyes for him to leave. Taking an exasperated breath, Muyiwa walked out of house. His world was crumbling around him and it was all because of one person, Damilola.]  To read episode 15, CLICK HERE

His heart was beating fast in his chest as he ran out of the house.  What have I done? He thought to himself as he yanked the door of his car open and got in hurriedly. He turned the key in the ignition and sat down there for a moment as what had just happened played in his mind. He had left Halima’s house with rage and hate in his blood. He hated Damilola for all that she represented.

Episode 15: Now That You Are Here; A Tale of Deception and Betrayal

[Excerpt From Episode 14: He protested in a weak tone and she shut him up with a kiss as she placed his hand on her breast and squeezed lightly. He kissed her back then and she pulled him up as she led him into the bedroom like a lamb being led to the slaughter. Mission accomplished she thought as she smiled to herself and closed the bedroom door after them.] To read Episode 14: CLICK HERE

Muyiwa’s was at home with Halima about three days after his meeting with Damilola. Halima was over at his place and they were both watching the 7pm news when a knock sounded on the door and Halima went to get it. Muyiwa smiled to himself as he wondered how he had been so lucky to have such a wonderful woman. He smiled to himself and said a silent prayer of thanks to the Heavens for having helped him control the situation with Damilola.

Episode 14: Now That You Are Here; A Tale of Deception and Betrayal

[Excerpt from Episode 13: “This madness has gone on for too long, I would be a very bad friend if I let this nonsense go on. It is time I do something about it. I have watched you make a fool of yourself just because I felt you knew what you were doing but it’s apparent you don’t. Halima and I need to have a talk. She must not marry that pig, pregnancy or no pregnancy.”]

Anu hurried into the almost empty restaurant and sighted Halima right away. She was sitting at the far end of the restaurant with her back to the door and her dark head bent over her phone. Anu sighed resignedly with what she was about to do of telling Halima all about Damilola and Muyiwa’s affair. This is going to be a betrayal you know, a voice in her head said but she quickly shut it out. I am simply trying to save them from themselves, she chided herself silently.

My Life As a Fifty Naira Note - Concluding Part

[Excerpt from Part 2: In the beggar’s bowl I at least had fresh air but being crushed between this food vendor’s breasts with her mammary glands pressing on me heavily I wished for the weight of the twenty naira note on me once again. I would happily suffer their company and bear the twenty naira note’s weight on me than this crushing weight that felt like a trailer was over me not to mention the nauseating smell.] To read part two CLICK HERE

I suffered in this condition as she went from street to street hawking her food. I listened from my prison as she boasted to some of her customers that she had the new fifty naira note and is among the first people to own it in the country. I wished throughout the entire period that she would at least bring me out to show off so that I could breathe in fresh air but each time she was asked to show me, she would pat her breasts affectionately and reply in the negative saying she had it hidden somewhere safe. I did not get released from this prison till much later in the evening, when she was home and decided to show me off to her children. They gathered around me where she laid me like a prized treasure and I watched the wonder in all of their faces.

My Life As A Fifty Naira Note - Part Two

[Excerpt from Part 1: After he was done, he picked me up gingerly as if I had some contagious disease and went to dress up. Off we went looking for a beggar to bequeath me to and I cried silently at the slime I felt was crawling over my body.] To read part one CLICK HERE

At last he found his victim, a blind beggar sitting on a side of the street begging for alms. He dumped me brought me out and brought me close to his mouth as he whispered some few more of diabolical gibberish to me before dumping me into the beggar’s bowl. I stared daggers at his retreating figure and if looks could kill, he surely would have dropped dead that instant.

My Life As a Fifty Naira Note - Part One

I lay there in the dark corner of the room, under the bed that creaked loudly every time any human weight rested upon it. The darkness shrouded my dirty, torn, worn and battered body. It was with indifference I watched as the rat seeking food nibbled at a tip of my body trying to figure if I was edible enough to serve as a meal. After satisfying its curiosity that I wasn’t delicious enough a cuisine, it scampered over me at the sound of the door opening, its little rat paws leaving a tear in my already battered body.

Episode 13: Now That You Are Here; A Tale of Deception and Betrayal

[Excerpt from Episode 12: He stared at her with a rueful smile on his face before he said “I am getting married Dammy.” Her heart stopped in her chest and she suddenly felt hurt, the pearls suddenly felt like they were burning her skin and she took another look at his face. He was serious, there was no doubt to that and with a gasp she turned and fled the room.] To read Episdoe 12 CLICK HERE

Muyiwa caught her by the arm just as she was about to grab the door and jerked her back. She fell into him and he staggered a bit. His hold loosened and she tried to make another run for it but he was quicker than her and had her by the arm again. He turned her around to face him and she pounded at his chest angrily.

“Let me go damn it!” she said, pummeling his chest with her hands as the tears flowed from her eyes.

The Day I Died Part 2

Read Part One; CLICK HERE

Have you ever had that tingling feeling that you are being watched? That there is some evil lurking in the backgrounds of your shadow and that an ominous darkness was pressing, trying to take over your being and shut out the light? That was the kind of feeling I was having that day when I died for a second time. This time my sister wasn’t there to save me from its clutches so death had a field day with me. It took its time to slowly torture me like a cat playing with a mice right before it gulps it down as a snack.

Episode 12 - Now That You Are Here; A Tale of Deceit and Betrayal

[Excerpt from Episode 11: Gbade’s car and clothes were gone judging from the empty space in the closet that clearly showed the space had been occupied before. Damilola wept silently as he handed her the key of the house which he had taken the initiative to lock up and Anu had to resume her duty of consoling her]. To read Episode 11 CLICK HERE

Muyiwa called her two days after the incident apologized for having lost control when he should have been more mature in handling the situation. Abiku - The Reincarnation

The woman was bent over the still figure of the child as she tried to pry his mouth open so she could feed him some of the concoction in the earthenware pot she was holding. The boy turned his head away from his mother and let out a loud wail. His little three year old cry filled the tiny hut and the woman dropped the earthenware pot on the floor as she sat on the mat the boy lay on.

The Other Side of Love

"I love you, Deronke!" He said as he got close to the dining table. His eyes were moist, and veins stood out on his face, neck and arms. I wondered how long he had been crying, shedding angry, bitter tears for a love lost. I wondered how long he had kept those words buried in his heart. The words that he now poured on me.

Episode 11 - Now That You Are Here; A Tale of Deceit and Betrayal

[Excerpt from Episode 10: They were both on the roller coaster of pleasure when Gbade’s voice broke through the cloud of passion “Damilola…” his voice sounded like it came from a thousand miles away but it was enough cold water to dampen the hot fire. The two sprung apart as they faced Gbade standing there, a briefcase in one hand and a box of chocolates in the other]. To read episode 10 CLICK HERE

The two sprung apart as if their bodies were on fire. Muyiwa was the first to take control and he tried to maintain a bland expression as he stared at Gbade’s face which was contorted with rage. Damilola on the other hand bowed her head in shame and refused to meet Gbade’s gaze as for some few seconds they all stood in silence with Gbade’s eyes darting from one guilty person to the other. His reaction was so unexpected that it took all of them by surprise.

Music Series: The Boy is Mine

The song “The Boy is Mine” is a duet by American recording artistes Brandy and Monica and was released in 1998. The song became the best selling song in the US for that year, spending 13 weeks at number on Billboard Hot 100.

You need to give it up.
Had about enough.
It's not hard to see,
the boy is mine.

Ada sashayed into the familiar room that was her best friend’s apartment. True best friends didn't go around trying to score with your boyfriend not to talk of stepping out with him. She headed straight for Lizzy’s bedroom and signaled her bodyguard to remain in the living room. As she entered the large bedroom she heard the sound of the shower running and figured Lizzy must be in the bathroom as she called out to her.

‘Just a moment Ada’ Lizzy yelled back as the sound of running water stopped. Ada controlled the animalistic urge to barge into the bathroom and confront Lizzy head on and she jammed her hands together to control the shaking. Lizzy was all smiles as she came out with nothing on but a flimsy towel tied around her chest that ended just below her knees. She was beautiful with her rich dark hair falling to her shoulders in a lovely curl that was perfectly natural. A mix breed of a French man and an Igbo woman, she was stunning to look at and perfectly aware of her own looks, Lizzy never tired of using it to her advantage. Her tall slender frame belied the strength that lied within and has being the undoing of many a men.  Despite her own successful music career, Ada sometimes felt like a fluke beside her best friend. Although she was careful never to let it show, she had the nagging fear that she paled in comparism to her drop dead gorgeous friend. She was equally a pretty thing to look at and had more than her fair share of attention but she was like a village beauty queen compared to Lizzy's Miss World beauty standard.

“What’s up with you babes, you look so tensed?” Lizzy’s voice broke the chain of her thoughts and she realized she had been glowering at Lizzy. While she had been glaring unconsciously, Lizzy had dropped her towel and was standing in nothing but her birthday suit as she preened and creamed her body, staring at her own reflection in one of the many standing mirrors that surrounded the room.

Ada glared for a few seconds more before she finally blurted out “Why Lizzy, why? Why do you always have to be a backstabbing low life bitch. I don't mind your bitchy ways but that's because we always have each other's back and you had to go right ahead and stab me."

Lizzy paused for a moment with a frown marring her otherwise flawless face and stared at Ada in genuine puzzlement. "What in Jupiter's name are you talking about?" she asked with a cock of her eyebrow.  The innocent attitude only seemed to infuriate Ada the more as she moved closer to Lizzy and repeated with clenched teeth "Quit the holier than thou attitude slutty best friend of mine, tell me you haven't been shagging with Andrew and God knows i will totally flip. How could you Liz! He is my frigging boyfriend."

Lizzy's expression went from surprise to amusement as understanding dawned on her pretty face and she burst out laughing before replying “Take a chill pill Ada, it’s nothing really. Didn't think you were going to mind at all seeing that you are stringing the soppy dude along. I was bored and needed something to amuse myself and seducing him seemed to take my mind off it for a while. It's not like you have genuine feelings for Dre so why so serious babes?" Her tone clearly indicated that she was far from feeling sorry and this only seemed to infuriate Ada even further.

“This boy is mine Lizzy and I want you to back off. You don't take your boredom out on my man so take your petty games somewhere else." Ada tried to keep her emotions in check as she realised she was beginning to raise her voice. It would be a shame and scandal for the both of them if word got out they were quarreling over a man.

“Quit acting like a fool Ada, Andrew is beneath us, just a toy to pass time with. Men have never been a big deal in times past, don’t make a big deal out of him.” Ada’s hand moved so quickly Lizzy didn’t see it coming until Ada’s palm hit her cheek. Her cheek smarted from the pain and she stared at her best friend first in shock then in anger. Her light skin turned red where she had been hit and her body trembled with contained anger,

“Get out! I want you to get the freaking fuck outta my apartment now Ada. Just so you know, I will have him just because I can and there is nothing you can do about it!" Ada stared at her bets friend for a minute before she flounced off the room, determined to have her revenge.

No, I Don't

Her heart was thumping against her chest so loudly she was surprised none of the bridesmaid or the other women around could hear the loud thumping. She looked at the faces of the people milling around her and swallowed resignedly, they didn’t understand her plight. None of them knew of her grief and she could not trust any of them well enough to bare her pain. Even if by chance any of them heard the thumping in her chest, they would probably mistake it as nervousness or excitement on her ‘big day.’ Who wouldn’t think that? It was after all her wedding and she was supposed to be the happiest woman in the world right then but she felt anything but that; far from it.

The Midnight Visitor

The persistent soft knock on the window brought me out of dreamland. My foggy brain took a minute longer than normal to register that the sound that woke me was the knock on the window. I yawned and stretched on the bed lazily before the soft knock came again. My head jerked instinctively to the direction of the noise and a frown marred by face as I pondered what could be making the noise. A quick look at my bedside clock read 1:47 a.m. Alarmed I jumped off from bed as my thoughts flew to a possible burglary. The knock came again, this time a bit harder and forceful and I tiptoed to the window and heard the soft hissing sound of Kasali’s voice came.

Music Series: Don't Take My Man

The song ‘Joelene’ is by American country music artist Dolly Parton. It was released over 4 decades ago and is ranked at No. 219 on the Rolling Stone Magazine’s list of “the 500 Greatest Songs of All Time.” The song is about a woman imploring another woman not to take her man from her

Jolene, Jolene, Jolene, Jolene
I'm begging of you please don't take my man
Jolene, Jolene, Jolene, Jolene
Please don't take him just because you can

As Dolly Parton’s voice crooned emotionally from the stereo in the car, Ada dashed at the tears that were flowing from her eyes, blinding her vision. She shouldn’t be crying; Andrew didn’t deserve her tears after all she didn’t love him or so she had convinced herself for the past nine months. Ada prided herself of always being in control of all her relationships and as she traveled down memory lane now, she realized that she had allowed herself to be a sucker and let ego get in the way of her emotions.

Now That You Are Here: A Tale of Deception and Betrayal (Episode 9)

[Excerpt From Episode 8: The alarms went off in her head as she heard him say “I would be coming to Nigeria to see you Dammy. I miss you and I know I have been a jerk but I want to make things right with you. When I think of love, you are all I can think of is you. I love you Dammy and I can’t stop loving you.”] To read Episode 8: CLICK HERE

Damilola wringed her hands together nervously as she and Anu waited for Gbade’s flight to arrive. It was like the last time all over again but this time she wasn’t nervous in an excited sort of way. Truth was she didn’t know exactly how she felt, who would have believed that the thought of Gbade would throw her into such a state of confusion.

Regretting Ijeoma

My heart aches heavily as I toss and turn on my bed, unable to sleep. My bedside clock reads 2:07am and I realize I have been trying to get some sleep for the last four hours to no avail. My heart knows no peace, not with this heavy burden placed upon it. How can I lure myself to sleep when these images and thoughts haunts me? The sharp pain I feel as a mosquito lands on my thigh and pierces through my skin in search of blood is a welcomed relief. For days now I have felt nothing but a chilling numbness and emptiness and this new feeling of pain is a comfort to my bereaved mind, a reminder that I am still alive.

Now That You Are Here: A Tale of Deception and Betrayal (Episode 8)

[Excerpt From Episode 7: She could sense the sadness in his eyes even in her weak state and she whispered, “The baby is gone isn’t it?” Muyiwa stared at her before nodding his head in affirmation and she closed her eyes and allowed the tears to flow freely.]  To Read Episode 7 CLICK HERE

With her hands folded under her breasts, Damilola stared at nothing in particular in her dark bedroom where she had refused to budge since the last one week that she had gotten back from the hospital. Losing the baby was like losing Gbade all over again only this time it hurt about three times more.
