Muyiwa’s was at home with Halima about three days after his meeting with Damilola. Halima was over at his place and they were both watching the 7pm news when a knock sounded on the door and Halima went to get it. Muyiwa smiled to himself as he wondered how he had been so lucky to have such a wonderful woman. He smiled to himself and said a silent prayer of thanks to the Heavens for having helped him control the situation with Damilola.

After the sex and the heat of unadulterated passion had blown over, he had tried to talk to her in the most reasonable tone he could muster given her all the reasons why they had to end the affair. Surprisingly, she had been calm and said his decision was fine by her. She had had a dreamy smile on her face for the remaining part of his visit and she had hugged him very tightly as he got to his car on his way out. She had even promised to attend the wedding and gave him her full blessing.

“This came for you Muyiwa,” Halima’s voice threw him out of his reverie as she handed him a wrapped package. His frown showed his confusion as he collected it from her.

“I wonder who it could be from, I wasn’t expecting any delivery.” Halima shrugged as she told him she wanted to go into the kitchen to start preparations for dinner. “Holla at me if you need me.” She said with a sultry drawl and he grabbed her butt as she made to leave with a naughty grin on his face.

After Halima was out of sight, he tore open the package and a compact disc fell on his laps. He picked it up with a puzzled frown and went into his room to get his laptop. His blood ran cold in his veins as he saw the very much familiar room of Damilola come on the screen and a few seconds later he and Damilola appeared on the screen. He watched in horror as their last encounter played on the screen and for a moment his heart stopped beating. He quickly shut the laptop for fear of Halima walking into the room and with shaky hands he dialed Damilola’s number.

“Have you gone nuts Damilola? What is the meaning of this nonsense, why are you out to ruin my life? You have to stop this madness Dammy.” Muyiwa paced the room angrily and hit his fist into his palm to curtail his frustration as he ranted. His first thought had been that someone was trying to blackmail or expose his affair with Dammy but he had received a further shock when she had calmly told him the video was from her and she planned on giving a copy to Halima if he threatened to end their affair again.

He had been jumpy all through the evening after speaking to her on phone and Halima had noticed the change. She had asked in her usual concerned tone what was wrong but he had told her that he quickly lied that a patient of his had died and it was affecting him badly. Now the following day, staring into the beautiful face of the source of his worry, he felt like wringing her neck and ending it all. He wondered how she could be so cold and change into this kind of monster; this wasn’t the Damilola he knew. She just sat there with a nonchalant expression on her face and watched him. Muyiwa cursed himself for the umpteenth time for having gotten himself into all of this.

“What exactly do you want Damilola? I can’t marry you for sure, I love Halima and she is going to be the mother of my child. This new you is just so strange, how can you be so filled with hate as to go to this extent?” Damilola scoffed and stared him with disdain in her eyes as she stood up and went over to the drink cabinet.
“Who said anything about marriage? Don’t flatter yourself Muyiwa, I wouldn’t marry you even if you were offered on a platter of gold…” Muyiwa interrupted angrily

“Then what the hell is all this about. We had a freaking good time, let it go dammit!” Damilola’s eyes narrowed into slits as she answered,

“What I want is very simple, despite your marriage to that stupid Miss Perfect; we are going to continue us. This is not over until I say it is, you can’t just waltz into my life like some prince charming come to rescue the damsel and then plunge a dagger into my heart, that is a cruel betrayal.”  Her right hand went to her chest to create an effect as she sipped the drink she had poured herself.

“You knew there was no future in this for us Damilola. I didn’t mean to get involved with you but it happened. We are both grown adults to be able to move on.”

“The heart wants what it wants my dear, and this girl’s heart is set on you.” She was close to him now and she tried to lay her head on his chest but he pushed her back and stared at her with venom in his eyes.

“You can’t ruin me Damilola, this madness is going to stop. I am going to tell Halima all of this myself.”

“I am sorry Halima, I just couldn’t hold it back anymore, I tried to tell you the other day at the restaurant, that was why I asked to see you that day.” Anu said as she tried to console a weeping Halima. Her tears were coming down hard and her distraught cry was making Anu question the logic of her action. She had not been able to hold it back anymore and she had finally spilled the beans.

“You should have told me sooner Anu, I understand you were trying to keep the confidence of your friend but what about me? What about what they were doing to me?...” she trailed off as she started crying again and Anu hugged her close as she tried to console her.

“What is going on here?” Muyiwa asked as he entered the room and took in the scene. Halima raised her head up at the sound of his voice and she flew at him in rage

“How could you Muyiwa?” she demanded as she slapped him hard on the face and pushed him violently. Muyiwa didn’t need to be told what she was talking about. He deflected her next blow and pulled her to him.

“I can explain Halima, just listen to me, please.” She struggled to get out of his grasp and finally managed to free herself.

“Get out now! I don’t want to see you Muyiwa, get the hell out of my house.” She screamed and Muyiwa tried to protest but Anu pleaded with her eyes for him to leave. Taking an exasperated breath, Muyiwa walked out of house. His world was crumbling around him and it was all because of one person, Damilola.
