I remember my childhood years, I was
prone to forgetting many holidays and festive periods but one period that was
forever etched in my mind was the Christmas season as the bells of Christmas kept
ringing. The bells had a rhythm that reminded us that Christmas was here again.
Christmas is known to have been celebrated
over the centuries by Christians and even some non-Christians in honour of the
birth of Jesus Christ. The celebration is usually done on the 25th day of December
but do many really know the true essence of Christmas? Why do we celebrate Christmas?
Just like a child is born and a birthday is celebrated after a year to mark the
remembrance of the child’s birth, that also is the same reason why Christmas is
celebrated and it is even more special and an unforgettable season due to because
it is not only a celebration of birthday but the life and times, the
resurrection of Jesus. Christmas is a season of love and hope and therefore
should be celebrated with joy.
The bells of Christmas bells are
synonymous with Christmas celebrations; bells in general are thought to be celebratory
in nature, they are also a method of getting people together. Christmas approaches
and the bells are waiting in anticipation to ring its announcement that it is
that time of the year again when jubilation rents that air and the Lord is
exalted. Never forget Christmas is a time of joy, a time when the love of God
is spread all around irrespective of who we are, a time when everything wishes
to glow, wishes come true, a time we share with all our heart, a time we all
need that special dress, cloth shoes and gifts, a time when laughter spreads
all around to the core and no matter how little we just want to put a smile on
someone’s face by saying: Merry Christmas! The bells of Christmas heralds our
saviour’s birth and celebration of life.
The true essence of Christmas is love.
